Goodbye 5SA

December 16, 2009

Well, here we are in the last week of school. It is hard to believe that the year is already over. I will cherish all of the fantastic memories made with this group of students forever.

Guys, I hope that you enjoyed the year and feel that you learnt some valuable lessons that will stay with you for the rest of your lives. I have loved getting to know all of you and will miss you. Take care, be good to your families and friends and remember to be true to yourselves always.

Please stay in touch (sallyalderton@gmail.com) as I would love to hear from you anytime.

Merry Christmas, happy new year and have a safe but fun summer holiday. Hopefully I will see you around school next year. Don’t forget to come and say hello to me when you see me!

Best wishes,
Ms Alderton

Climate Change

December 15, 2009

The students in 5SA recently completed a mini project on Climate Change. They learnt about this threat to our future and how we can take action to help. Below is a link to a video taken during the rallies on Saturday, as well as a petition you can sign to urge Kevin Rudd to take strong action in Copenhagen this week. Please visit it and make your voice heard if you care about this issue!

My Dream Invention: The Sprinkler 3000

October 27, 2009

The invention is a sprinkler that puts out fires.

The sprinkler is a combination with a smoke detector and a pipe line It is used to clear the fires.

The sprinkler uses the smoke detector. The sprinkler looks like a smoke detector with holes in it.

It is going to be placed where there is a large enclosure of trees or any place where fire could harm homes or people .It helps people survive the bush fires safely without loss of lives or homes.

The sprinkler 3000 is valuable, especially because it can help people in the bush fires if their houses are surrounded by trees.

Basketball Stadium

October 26, 2009

As you all know, we are getting a new Basketball Stadium with a science room and maybe even a cooking room! It’s known that the building will be finished in the year 2010. As we can see the builders are working very hard to get everything going smoothly and correctly.

It’s sometimes annoying at Lunch-time and Recess because we don’t have many places to play because our 2-square courts are gone and also our concrete area where we could play all sorts of things. The students who are in  Grade 6 this year won’t get any of the facilities of the stadium unlike the Preps who will get the most advantages of the whole complex. It’s still good that we are getting the whole complex.

Most of the people can’t wait till the stadium gets built because of the fun things that we are told will be happening in the complex.

Digital Story Books

October 23, 2009

Many of the students in 5SA have written, acted in, edited and created individual digital stories using either Windows Movie Maker or IVideo on the Macbook. There was no theme for their stories but it had to be appropriate for a prep student – they had their buddies in mind!

Here are the first of a number of their stories I intend to publish in the upcoming weeks. The first is by Anesh and the second by Raj.

My Dream Invention

October 21, 2009

The Virtua Wii

The Virtua Wii is made up of a virtual world that you enter where people can do anything they want from meeting each other to playing against their friends.

The Virtual world inside the hi-tech console  is so advanced that it lets you talk to anyone you like, even in the middle of playing against someone.

The Virtual Wii has 4 game slots that allow you to play 4 different games at a time with up to 100 people on 1 console at a time! Now there’s no fights over who has the first turn and what game to play.

It works like this: when you buy it and make a mii on it, it gives each mii a code that you can use to teleport into the virtual world. When you are in the virtual world you can challenge other people to a game and the people that aren’t watching can watch you on T.V .

The Virtua Wii is really useful because it is portable, you can just take it in your backpack, its only 10cm x 20cm and all you have to do is connect one wire to the T.V.

The Virtua Wii can be played by children from the age of 4 to grannies up to the age of 150. So it really nearly benefits everyone. The console is so hi-tech that when you come out of the virtual world you’ll actually feel like you had some exercise, and now for even more exercise, there is the new Virtua Wii Fit, to order call 131008 for your new Virtua Wii Fit.

Dream Invention: Hover Car VTR

October 21, 2009

The Hover Car VTR is a car which hovers and can also drive by itself. It can be used for normal driving as it still has wheels or you can turn on the hover option and auto-pilot option for longer drives.

The Hover Car VTR looks just like a normal car but under the bonnet it is a jungle of wires. When you turn on the hover option, from under the car a black metal time wall comes out from under the car. Within a minute your Hover Car VTR will be hovering.

The car runs on petrol and solar power. There is a huge solar panel on the roof of the car. The Hover Car VTR has a V12 engine which can take unleaded fuel. The car can go up to a speed of 200mph.

The car benefits everyone because, say you are going on a long drive and you are feeling sleepy then you can turn on the auto-pilot option and let the car drive you!(It makes you and other people safer) It uses solar power to save petrol and so it doesn’t contribute to Global Warming.

Opinion: I want to invent the Hover Car VTR because there is no such thing in the world yet!
